With this layout you can get a lot of railroad and scenery in a small area due to the full "open grid" construction in which trackboards are located on stilts only where roadbed is required and the rest of the space is completely open. Other good features of the N18 are a twice-around mainline with two double-ended passing tracks, and continuous operation of two trains on a single track.
